Tor Hough

What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
We've availed ourselves of several industry veterans in developing our business plan. We've also focused on developing strong working relationships with automotive industry trade associations. Oakland University has been a good place to find interns and new employees.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
The Consulate General of Canada in Detroit. They approached us having seen our website.

Where did you find your first employee?
Our employees are all founding partners.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
We regularly promote interns to employees.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We've relied entirely on founder capital to date. In our experience there isn't much of a market for early stage capital for software companies or automotive related ventures in Michigan. When our service has evolved and is firmly established we believe there may be growth stage money available.

What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
Proximity to the automotive industry is important to our business. Access to the many suppliers in the region is helpful. Michigan has a strong workforce and excellent universities from which to draw new talent. There are many highly rated communities in which our employees can live and be educated.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
Improved public transportation and roads. Most communities in Southeast Michigan are not well designed for both living and working within one community and transportation between communities is challenging. The region could benefit from a government and leadership that rewarded productivity and entrepreneurial behavior.
