What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
SPECIALIZEDESIGNS is currently a part of the TechArb, a University of Michigan student business accelerator.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
We are not at customer stage yet.

Where did you find your first employee?
At an internship last summer at an automotive supplier.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
We don't have any interns, yet.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We have received grants through the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Michigan.

What could local leaders do to help attract and retain more entrepreneurial young people to Metro Detroit?
I'd love to see more TechArb-esque business incubators throughout the city of Detroit. So far, I don't know of any. But if entrepreneurs know that they have a space to make their businesses work, maybe they won't be compelled to leave Michigan in the first place.

What is one thing Michigan does better or has going for it that other more successful regional economies don't?
Michigan's sense of pride and resilience is what sets the state apart than any other in my opinion. Despite what's happened to Michigan in the recession and automotive industry turmoil, the residents of Michigan, especially Detroit, still remain so proud of their cities and neighborhoods. This, to me, is what gives entrepreneurs the passion to give back to their community, and is the reason why I think Michigan's entrepreneurship has always had and will continue to have such a strong mark on the state's culture.
