What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
I attended Wharton Business School.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Chrysler. My partner, Bob, and myself were developing a strategic plan for computer-aided systems with them at our previous employer, Midwest Business Systems. MBS didn't want to get into the computer graphics business, so they allowed us to take them with us when we started Visual IMPACT!

Where did you find your first employee?
Midwest Business Systems purchased the company I was working at (PACT Systems) for their AutoCad business. My future partner was at MBS in the sales department.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
We have promoted part-time independent contractors to employees over the years.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
Other than the large projects, we have done (+$100,000) which we secured special funding for that particular job, we have funded most of our projects with down payments and lines of credit through the bank we were associated with at the time.

What do you see in Metro Detroit that other people who live outside the area don't?
Personnel resources: A well-educated workforce that is resilient and hard-working is still here.
Business resources: We have world-class universities and research facilities, along with film industry incentives.
Natural resources: We have the largest concentration of fresh water in the world, along with the natural beauty of the Great Lakes.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
Make us more competitive by completely restructuring or eliminating the small business taxes.
