What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
I have completed a couple of years of college but I do not have a degree. I have completed numerous professional courses and academic programs over the past 30 years.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Our first customer was a large regional hospital/medical center in Cape Canaveral/Melbourne area in Florida.

Where did you find your first employee?
I was fortunate to have a long time employee of mine move back to Michigan at the same time I was opening the company. We have worked together at three different companies for 25 years.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
We have promoted a total of six interns to employee status.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We have received funding from various private equity firms, two of which are located in Michigan (Health Management and Seneca Partners). Alternative sources of investors include Automation Alley, The State of Michigan and finally we have a traditional banking facility with The PrivateBank.

What is one thing Michigan does better or has going for it that other more successful regional economies don't?
Well, in the gray of our economy we still have tremendous colleges and universities to draw from, and a skilled work force who by the nature of developing their skills in our state know what it means to battle and persevere.

What advice would you give to someone who was thinking about opening a business here?
Take advantage of the help that is out there, like the incredible group at Automation Alley. That and get customers pre-sold before you open.
