What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
Genesis10 has created training programs for our clients as well as for internal employee development. For instance, our G10 Associates Program has an in-depth two week training boot camp to equip our Associates to hit the ground running day one with clients. This training has proven so effective, that clients have asked us to use it to train their employees. In addition, we have on-going training programs focused on equipping our internal sales and recruiting employee teams with the skills needed to understand our clients’ business and technology. And finally, due to the nature of our business, Genesis10 employees and consultants are members of, and participate in training and continuing education with industry
groups that include the Project Management Institute (PMI), International Institute of Business Analysts (IIBA), Change Management, Agile Development and CMMI just to name a few.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Genesis10’s first delivery center client was an existing client. Genesis10 was providing traditional staffing services to a Fortune 100 Global Financial Institution and based on our understanding of their global human capital challenges, we designed a domestic delivery center model to address their challenges. 27 months later, we have a mature service capability with nearly 500 consultants, 3 delivery centers and 3 additional delivery centers geographies identified.

Where did you find your first employee?
Our first delivery center consultant was in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
We have not had the opportunity to promote an intern to employee status as of yet but have a career growth program to support personal and professional growth opportunities. Furthermore, Genesis10 offers an Associates Program targeting college hires or recent graduates with a couple of years of experience. The genesis of this program is a result of Corporate America’s need for junior talent. Almost 8 to 10 years ago, Corporate America stopped investing in a college hire program, resulting in a very senior workforce. Our clients are striving to create more balance across their human capital management strategy and are able to do so by leveraging Genesis10’s Delivery Center and Associates Program(s).

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
When I founded the company, I asked 12 of my former colleagues to ignore common sense, the advice of their accountants, their risk-averse life situations with families and mortgages, and come and join me in this new venture. The beginning 10 knew that they would take pay cuts of 50-80 percent, but they believed in the business model and they trusted me. And even though the company had no offices and no clients, and a president who took no salary, Genesis10 was born. Since our inception, Genesis10 has grown organically at an annualized rate of 38 percent and maintains conservative business practices. We have no long-term debt on our balance sheet and have a large credit facility for short term borrowing needs. We have a lean management structure that results in lower overhead and direct access to senior leadership. This allows us to be very flexible and nimble to meet our client’s needs.

What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
The quality and availability of highly-skilled technology professionals is critical to our ability to help our clients achieve their business and technology objectives with strategic, on-shore workforce solutions. After evaluating various locations, we chose the state of Michigan and the city of Troy for both offices because the high caliber talent and technology expertise makes this a very attractive location.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
Our brand awareness! Genesis10 works behind the scenes with our clients to help them improve their business operations and technologies , reduce costs and risks without compromising quality and achieve their business objectives. Our contractual agreements restrict us from identifying client names and proprietary processes, tools and/or methodologies. And while our proven performance fuels our organic growth, Genesis10 is not recognized as a household name. We continue to work on that - one client at a time.
