Jimmy Kicks, a boutique shoe company based in
TechTown, plans to begin shipping its first run of shoes this week.
The
nearly 1-year-old company makes unique sneakers for people who collect
head-turning, often custom-made, shoes. They're commonly known as
sneakerheads. These are the people who can describe the
original Air Jordan from memory and will drop four figures or more for the right pair of sneakers.
James Smith Moore plans to begin capturing part of this growing market with his new company,
Jimmy Kicks.
"It's for the person who wants to limited edition shoes," Moore says. "It's for the person who wants to feel exclusive."
Jimmy
Kicks will produce 250-500 shoes per style with a number for each
sneaker. Moore, a 21-year-old Rosedale Park resident and
Bizdom U
graduate, hopes to expand his product offering to custom-made hoodies,
hats and book bags. That should allow Moore to grow Jimmy Kicks' staff
of four employees and two independent contractors to 10 people by this
summer when the company begins to handle more product.
