Huron Capital Partners named Private Equity Firm of the Year

The awards are nearly as good as the rewards for Huron Capital Partners.

Huron Capital Partners was named Private Equity Firm of the Year for 2010 by Mergers & Acquisitions, the pre-eminent magazine for private equity. The downtown-based firm beat out 230 other nominees for its Ross Education deal, which produced 18.7 times its original investment and a 76-percent internal rate of return.

"It was very significant," says Mike Beauregard, partner with Huron Capital Partners. "It was one of the best investments in the U.S."

That investment and others like it allowed Huron Capital Partners to expand its workforce to 13 people and the occasional intern. That's up from 11 people when we last checked in with the late-stage private equity company two years ago. The firms Huron Capital Partners owns an interest in employ more than 3,000 people today. Huron Capital Partners plans to add a few more people to its core staff late this year as it prepares to raise capital for its next fund in early 2012.

Huron Capital Partners specializes in buying stakes in existing corporations in need of recapitalization, corporate spin-offs, family business succession, leverage buyouts or firms its just looking to buy and build up. Its latest acquisition is in Victoria Packing Corp, a food company that plans to take its brand national.
