GalaxE Solutions fills new downtown space with dozens of hires

GalaxE. Solutions arrived in Detroit last spring to a lot of fanfare about it setting up an IT center at 1001 Woodward. The multi-national firm has since aggressively filled out its staff and expanded its floor space to meet customer demand.

The company has hired 55 people and counting so far and expects to hire another 100 or so within the next year. To help house all of those new jobs GalaxE. Solutions has added a third floor to its space at 1001 Woodward, giving it a total of 40,000 square feet overlooking Campus Martius.

The company's chairman and CEO, Tim Bryan, calls that section of downtown an emerging IT hub thanks to its presence and Compuware and Quicken Loans next door. Bryan says he is talking with other corporations who are "taking a hard look" at creating jobs in downtown Detroit because of the competitive cost of doing business.

""We're basically giving them the opportunity to reduce their price-point costs for domestic work," Bryan says, adding Detroit's cost of doing business matches up well with the likes of foreign firms of Brazil. Plus, Detroit is closer, there is no language barrier and no security issues. "All of these things make Detroit compare very favourably," Bryan says. "That's what makes Detroit so attractive to our customers."

GalaxE. Solutions plans to hire 500 IT professionals in downtown Detroit over the next 5 years. Most of those jobs will be for work that has normally gone overseas in recent years. GalaxE. Solutuions is also currently working to put its name in lights on 1001 Woodward by installing high-profile building signage.
