Stephanie Saia

What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
I have participated in FastTrac NewVenture through the MISBTDC, the Thrive Program through TechTown and How to Write a Business Plan class at Schoolcraft College.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Gloria Conti of St. Clair Shores was my first customer. Gloria and I went to high school together and have remained friends for 36 years. She has been very supportive of my business from the beginning.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
Presently we are self-funded. However, I have been working with Chase Bank on different options for capital in the future.

What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
There are countless resources available for start-up companies along with many networking opportunities. The MISBTDC and TechTown are great resources. Metro Detroit is working hard to assist entrepreneurs who want to start a business.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
I would create a way to draw more people to the city of Detroit. Detroit has so many things to offer including museums, theaters and fabulous restaurants. It would be nice if more people took advantage of what the city has to offer.

What advice would you give to someone who was thinking about opening a business here?
I would tell anyone who was thinking about opening a business in Metro Detroit to follow their dream. The path to success is putting the pieces together by utilizing the resources available, listening to those who have the experience and perseverance.

What do you see in Metro Detroit that other people who live outside the area don't?
I love that you can have the big city and the long winding country roads all at the same time. You can drive down the street and come upon horses, cows and sheep and then hit the mall. The people of Metro Detroit are friendly, busy and fun. We have so much culture there isn't enough time to take it all in. There is always a concert, festival or event that you can attend.
