What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
We work closely with a number of universities on recruiting, particularly Lawrence Tech. We leverage a number sales programs/strategies, including johncostigan.com and Solution Selling.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Our first customer in our current incarnation was Gerber Life Insurance. We found them through a business partner referral.

Where did you find your first employee?
Our first employee was a relative of an owner, and he is still with us. Our second and third employees came from newspaper ads.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
Yes. Three current employees started as interns.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
Our company is entirely organically grown. We have leveraged a simple line of credit only once in our history, and that was from NBD/Chase.

What could local leaders do to help attract and retain more entrepreneurial young people to Metro Detroit?
Understand the role of government. Stop wasting time promoting the next cool thing, such as alternative energy, or green technology. Government leaders need to focus on about low taxes, public education, safety and zoning issues so that they can create the right environment for business growth. I think Government can also help encourage the redevelopment of urban areas to create places where creative people can flourish.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
I hope that all of these things happen before I die: Return Detroit to its stature of 50-60 years ago, where we were a world center of innovation and productivity. This takes bold leadership and people willing to move past racial politics. The Lions winning the Super Bowl.
