We are housed in the Ann Arbor SPARK
Central Business Incubator in Ann Arbor.
Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
We are currently in alpha release and have over 700 student users and over 100 companies using the TruApp
. Our first student user was a friend of the co-founders and the first company meaningfully recruiting off TruApp was Menlo Innovations
. I know the founders of Menlo Innovations well and they agreed to alpha test TruApp.
Where did you find your first employee?
Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
Yes, we promoted a University of Michigan
student programmer to first hire this past January. This was the first time we did this.
Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
The Michigan Pre-Seed Capital Fund
and a private investor.
Name an idea, policy or mindset from elsewhere that you would like to see this region adopt?
Would like to see a Y Combinator
-like incubator come to southeast Michigan. But more than space and capital, we would like to connect with experienced entrepreneurs, investors, and mentors in the web, media, and tech space.
What could local leaders do to help attract and retain more entrepreneurial young people to Metro Detroit?
Foster communities/areas/zones with a high density of startups (e.g. TechBrewery
) so that entrepreneurs can better connect and support one another.
