What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
Our team attends many local seminars on topics that relate to all facets of our business. We are constantly looking for ways to expand our knowledge of various topics. Our participation with the Detroit Regional Chamber, Automation Alley, Walsh Institute, Michigan Business Professional Association and many other business and trade organizations help us pursue that goal.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
A manufacturing company in Michigan in need of working capital to grow their business. It was referred to us by a local banker that was unable to provide them a loan due to their short time in business.

Where did you find your first employee?
I worked with our chief risk officer and operations manager, Candi Pavliscak, for a number of years before starting Hennessey Capital. She was the first person to join our team.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
Each internship we have offered (two so far) was designed to be an educational opportunity and a chance to build experience working on a specific, short-term project.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
Our main financing comes from a local bank partner which we have worked with since we first started in 2002. On the other side of the coin, we are always gratified when we have the opportunity to provide growth capital for other businesses that are expanding.

What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
For being a relatively large state, Michigan really is a small world. The connections to business opportunities and business knowledge are abundant and folks are truly willing to help. The business community is a closely knit one.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
Making sure we have a common agenda and all parties are working toward the goal of improving our state. Collaboration is critical to our collective success.
