Michael Mikhjian

What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
None, really. Most of my experience comes from my prior day jobs and personal side projects (i.e. several Facebook applications and SaaS's). I went straight into a lead software engineer position when I was 18. Like other entrepreneurs/developers, I started very young. I spent my late elementary recesses reading programing books and such. I believe I was only 11 when I had my first online business, of which actually did quite well.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
After I quit my day job I notified several friends of my availability for web consulting, the word spread quickly. My first customer under MKN Web Solutions was actually several companies all at the same time; developing various web applications, API integrations, and etc.

Have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
I'm my own investor actually. I've never sought out to find any capital. I keep very close to the bootstrap process.

What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
Michigan can be compared to an untapped gold mine. There's so much potential and talent here. I've been meeting with several entrepreneurs and developers lately. They are all around us, we all just need to be connected and hopefully create sparks. I can see Detroit becoming another booming tech city.

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
I don't think anything really needs to be changed. The tech community here is already doing what it should be doing. We're well on our own way.
