What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
Not to our advantage, but we fund various graduate programs - including an entrepreneurial program for engineering students at Wayne State University.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
A fellow Wayne State graduate's first job was at Cadillac, and he introduced me to the company. In 1977, when Cadillac was told a certain marketing problem "couldn't be done" with current technology, I invented a way to solve the problem and founded Urban Science to deliver the solution. I pioneered an automated mapping process, inventing computer generated dot mapping.

Where did you find your first employee?
I knew him at Wayne State, through the center for Urban Studies.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
This happens frequently – internships play an important strategic role in our recruiting efforts.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We re-invest our profits, and also have a great relationship with Comerica.

What do you see in Metro Detroit that other people who live outside the area don't?
We have an abundance of creative, hard-working people with a can-do attitude. They don't work for recognition, but rather to invent solutions and solve real-world business problems.

Name an idea, policy or mindset from elsewhere that you would like to see this region adopt?
A competitive business tax structure.
