What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
I have a MBA from University of Michigan and the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. I also worked with Great Lakes Entrepreneur's Quest, New Enterprise Forum, Ann Arbor SPARK and Accelerate Michigan.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
We are pre-revenue but have received numerous Small Business Innovation Research grants from National Heart Blood and Lung Institute.

Where did you find your first employee?
He was a referral from the then chair of the University of Michigan Biomedical Engineering Department, Matt O'Donnell. He recommended one of his prior Phd graduates Jamie Hamilton who is our current CTO.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
No.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We have raised capital from angel networks, have secured significant funds from National Institute of Health grants, and are now moving to venture capital sources.

What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
The work ethic in the Midwest is arguably the best in the country. The upside to limited access to capital is we have learned how to be very capital efficient in building companies. There is exceptional and unique talent in signal processing, imaging, and algorithm development talent in southeast Michigan, largely due to the University of Michigan and the former Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (now part of General Dynamics).

If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
The weather. Seriously, I think the area is poised for considerable growth, is beginning to be recognized by the rest of the nation as a source of innovation. However, there are still insufficient financial resources to capitalize on the opportunity. Further, the area needs more experienced mentors who know how to take a successful start and drive it to the next level and ultimately to a return for the investors.
