Don Tanner & Matt Friedman

What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
We are active in a range of business groups and their programs including Automation Alley, Chaldean American Chamber, Detroit Regional Chamber, Royal Oak Chamber.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Pfizer, Realcomp and the Law Offices of Sam Bernstein were clients who came on board immediately because of past business relationships.

Where did you find your first employee?
Our controller, Kim Higgins was a longtime friend with years of financial experience at Compuware.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
Yes. We have hired interns on four different occasions to employee status. All, sans one who moved to California, are still with us.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We followed a banking professional from our previous and initial bank to Level One Bank.

It's often said that Metro Detroit and Michigan need to reinvent their economies to be competitive. Are we making those changes, and if so are we making enough of them or doing it fast enough?
We are definitely moving in the right direction. We see entrepreneurialism and innovation in products and services everyday from both current and potential clients. The brain power is there. The only barriers we see are access to capital and overall confidence in the economy.

What is one thing Michigan does better or has going for it that other more successful regional economies don't?
Our Midwestern work ethic and history of innovation. We are driven and resilient.

What advice would you give to someone who was thinking about opening a business here?
Have a plan and a mission. If you are dedicated with the ability to adapt where necessary, anything is possible.
