What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
Returned to college and completed BBA at Cleary College. It's a great program.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
We have more than 2 million customers. Our first one was from out of state in October 1999 who wanted to buy an appliance part out of state. We found them by advertising on a search engine.

Where did you find your first employee?

Our CEO knew several people personally and contacted them to see if they would be interested in this venture. They were, and two out of the original three are still with us.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
We don't have interns per se, but we have promoted many employees over the years into positions of greater responsibility.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
Private investors for capital, Comerica Bank for operating capital.

What advice would you give to someone who was thinking about opening a business here?
Michigan's tax structure is very favorable to ecommerce companies because the small business taxes are based on Michigan revenues. There is a large population of skilled workers. Michigan is a very pleasant state with a lot of natural beauty and resources, and the people are still Midwestern-friendly.

Name an idea, policy or mindset from elsewhere that you would like to see this region adopt?
We should be the absolute leader in non-fossil fuel energy equipment production. We have the engineering, manufacturing, and global capability and credibility to lead in every aspect of alternative energy equipment. I want to see massive tax breaks for every company that sets up shop in Michigan to produce solar, wind, hydro, geo-thermal, and any other viable form of renewable energy production equipment.
