Catherine Juon and Linda Girard

What educational, entrepreneurial or business development programs, if any, have you taken advantage of?
Linda and I each belong to a roundtable and value those meetings as the best single investment we've made in our business. She belongs to EO and I, WPO (The Women Presidents' Organization). Before we were eligible to join those programs, Charlie Penner at the SBTDC was a huge resource for us, and now we're excited to be participating in programs of the Edward Lowe Foundation, designed for second-stage entrepreneurs.

Who was your first customer and where did you find them?
Linda had a previous business, sheshe.seo, that folded customers into this business, such as Saline Lectronics and Greenpath Debt Solutions.

Where did you find your first employee?
Linda's family. Her nephew, Steve Loszewski, was our first employee and he's still with us. He's an awesome optimizer in both paid search and search engine optimization.

Have you promoted an intern to employee status, and if so how many times have you done it?
Yes, several times. We also have an intern that is now an employee at a client.

Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We started on day one with customers, so we have largely been self-funded with additional capital provided by loans from friends & family. Institutional funding came much later in the form of a line of credit from the Bank of Ann Arbor, which has a great reputation for supporting local companies and understands the technology business we're in.

People often talk about the changes Michigan needs to make to be competitive in the 21st Century. What is something we already do well that gives us an advantage in the new economy?
If you look at our heritage you'll see Henry Ford was more than an automotive guy. He was an inventor and an entrepreneur. If we look at ourselves as a state of inventors and entrepreneurs then we can do a lot to support those individuals.

You could set up your business anywhere. Why in a pricey location like downtown Ann Arbor's iconic 201 S Main St building instead of cheaper suburban office complex?
This is Ann Arbor. The heart of downtown. It's awesome here. There is so much energy here. To me if we're going to be in the Silicon Valley of Michigan we have to be in Ann Arbor. Google is here. They saw it. Although, we were here first.
