Biodiesel Industries, Inc.

Biodiesel Industries just broke ground on their new Detroit plant in May 2007, which will emphasize biodiesel research, development, and production.

The company has one of the world's largest networks of biodiesel production facilities with operations in Texas, California, and Australia. Its newest facility –Detroit-- will have the capacity to produce 10 million gallons per year of biodiesel using a full spectrum of feedstocks, including crude, refined and recycled vegetable oils and animal fats. This proven multi-feedstock technology is the key to their success, producing biodiesel products that conform to European Union and U.S. standards.

Major clients include government agencies, petroleum distributors and trucking fleets.

Research and development efforts will be performed in conjunction with NextEnergy and will include analyzing new feedstocks and converting a brownfield site into an agricultural resource. DaimlerChrysler will donate property at the former SuperFund site for the research and development of alternative agricultural resources.

Biodiesel received the EPA Project of the Year Award in 2005 for their project with the City of Denton.

The company expects to add 25 new positions locally by the end of the year.
