Sakthi Auto aims to hire 183 with $18.6M Detroit investment

Sakthi Automotive Group plans to invest $18.6 million in a Detroit manufacturing facility to serve as its North American plant. The move is expected to create up 183 new jobs

The India-based automotive supplier, a division of Sakthi Group, makes everything from brake parts to steering knuckles. It works with General Motors and is making inroads to establish inroads with the other Big 3 automakers.

It plans to buy a vacant building in the city and turn it into its own manufacturing facility. It expects to finish filling the 183 new positions by the end of 2015. The company was attracted to the site because its proximity to freeways and other transportation outlets.

"From a logistics perspective, Detroit is a great place to be," says Thomas Brian, advisor to Sakthi Automotive Group.

The investment was made possible by $1.5 million in incentives provided by the State of Michigan. The city of Detroit will also provide a 12-year tax abatement for the project. Detroit beat out a competing site in South Carolina.
