Mindfield hires 2, still has eyes on renovating GAR building

Mindfield is at a turning point. The downtown-based all-media marketing firm is deciding on whether to remain as is or grow.

"We're very comfortable," says David Carleton, partner/executive producer of Mindfield. "Twelve people is a perfect number for a small company."

That doesn't mean the 11-year-old company hasn't been growing. It has hired two people over the last year (artists and editors) on the strength of six new customers from a variety of industries. Those sectors include, energy, domestic automotive and health-care. It's a philosophy that has served Mindfield well now and in the past.

"We did well diversifying so even though our numbers were normal during the downturn," Carleton says. "We did well."

Mindfield also has not lost its focus on renovating the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Building at Grand River Avenue and Adams Street in downtown. The 19th Century structure (it looks like a castle) used to serve as a sort of club house for Civil War veterans, and has been vacant for a number of years.

Carleton says Mindfield still has eyes for renovating it as soon the city lets the project move forward. He hopes to move Mindfield's operations there within the next 1-2 years.
